The Arts at Grace concert series is privileged to present a chamber music event on Sunday, May 6 at 4:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 13 Court Street in Cortland. Featured will be world renowned musicians, violinist Ariadne Daskalakis and pianist Miri Yampolsky. Their program will include music by Lutoslawski, Brahms, and Fauré. A reception and master class will follow the performance.
With a repertoire that encompasses music from the early Baroque to the Modern period, violinist Ariadne Daskalakis has performed extensively in the USA, Canada, Europe, Israel and Japan. She has given concerto performances with many orchestras, including appearing with Sir Yehudi Menuhin in Tel-Aviv. Not only is she a soloist, but she also is first violinist of the Manon Quartet Berlin. She won prizes at the St. Louis Symphony 2000 Young Artists Competition and the Gyarfas Violin Competition in Berlin in 1992. Ariadne Daskalakis was born and grew up in Boston. She studied at the Juilliard School and holds degrees from Harvard and the Hochschule der Kunste Berlin. She has been Professor for Violin at the Hochschule für Musik Cologne since 2000.
In addition to studying in Madrid and Tel Aviv, Israeli pianist Miri Yampolsky graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Leon Fleisher. She has worked closely with other famous musicians including Alfred Brendel, Isaac Stern and Christoph Eschenbach. Ms. Yampolsky has appeared in solo recitals and chamber music performances throughout Israel, the US, Japan, South Africa and Europe. She has appeared as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Zubin Mehta, the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, and locally with the Cornell Chamber Orchestra and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. Miri Yampolsky is a first prize winner of the Jose Iturbi International Piano Competition in Valencia, Spain, and the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany, in the category of violin-piano duo with violinist Ariadne Daskalakis. She teaches chamber music at Cornell University in Ithaca.
